Phone Companies are damage. Route around them
Michael Robertson's new project (GUPS) is to wire up universities with sip/pots bridges running Linux, so that all inter-university calls are free, and that anyone outside the university can make a free SIP call to any university phone #.
If you consider municipal wireless the thin end of the wedge for displacing telco's, might cooperative SIP interconnects like this be the next blow to their business model?
Aside: This week I've met two office-neighbors working for different VOIP companies. Did these things even exist 5 yrs ago?
