Edging towards 1T

Yesterday I brought a shiny new 250G hard drive online. That brings the total among laptops, desktops and residential gateways to ~900G.

The biggest storage black hole is VM and Virtual PC instances, which is annoying considering that all the Windows server VMs contain 1.5G worth of the same OS files. The duplication is made more annoying when every few days the Windows VM I'm using has to go download the same patch downloaded by the last Windows VM I used.

It seems like there should be a way to get the Windows VMs to make use of shared storage for the OS files that are identical. I have a feeling that this is something SANs do. I'll have to dig a little deeper to find something suitable to SOHO budgets.
